Last summer, my mother in-law backed into a parked school bus and damaged the paint and taillight on her Jeep Renegade. Fortunately, the paint damage was isolated. Here is an afternoon repair I made using Eastwood High Build Primer, OEM Select Basecoat Aerosol of code 562 Omaha Orange and High Gloss Clear 2K AeroSpray.
The first steps I took were to remove the taillight, and then I wiped off the damaged area with PRE prep to remove any dirt and wax. I then sanded the damaged area with 220 and 320 grit and applied a thin coat of glazing putty. After that dried, I sanded the putty smooth up to 400 grit and spot primed the damaged areas. Next I sanded that again up to 400 grit, tack ragged off the dust and then applied 3 light coats of basecoat, followed by 3 coats of clear. Once everything dried, I installed a used taillight and sent the Jeep home.
